In this scenario, a Premium or Digital Cable TV Set-top Box is added to an Avcast network. In this case, the Set-top Box is treated like any other video source, with one possible exception. If the Set-top Box requires a direct path back to the cable company (e.g. for ordering pay-per-view movies) you may need to split the incoming Cable TV signal and run a direct line to the Set-top Box. Alternately, if the Set-top Box is DOCSIS compatible, you may be able to connect it to the Avcast network like a Cable Modem (See "Room with PC and Cable Modem" above). In the figure below, a splitter divides the incoming Cable TV signal between the CableCaster and the Set-top Box. The CableCaster replaces the splitter where Cable TV or antenna signals enter the home. A notch filter eliminates unwanted signals from the antenna or Cable TV service (you specify filter range). The Set-top Box in Room 1 is added to the Avcast network with a MediaCaster, which takes the audio/video output of the receiver and modulates it to a TV channel. The MediaCaster is set to a "Personal TV Channel", say channel 65. Any TV tuned to channel 65 can view the Set-top Box. Room 4 has an IRCaster/IRDetector installed. This enables users to control the Set-top Box with its infrared remote control from Room 4. Additional MediaCasters and IRCasters can be added to the network (~8 video sources maximum).
